Nathan and Katie - want to stay in that location but need a bigger home
Nathan and Katie owned a three bedroom home in Fisher on a great block opposite a park that was perfect for their kids.
They had two teenage boys and a five-year-old daughter, and Nathan and Katie’s parents lived interstate but were visiting Canberra more and more often, staying in paid accommodation.
The boys had been sharing a room for the past five years since their daughter was born, living space was tight and separate activities and homework was becoming more of a challenge.
Nathan and Katie had investigated the option to extend the home a year or 2 earlier, and the cost and disturbance to the household were not feasible. They had heard some horror stories from friends about the disruption to day to day life and cost blowouts including the requirement to upgrade the energy efficiency of the existing home, seemed to risky.
Katie contacted Canberra Granny Flat Builders to get some advice about adding a detached 2 bedroom unit to the property.
Working with a relatively tight budget Canberra Granny, Flat Builders recommended a few the designs that meet their needs, with the design 230 proving to be an excellent match that provided two bedrooms with plenty of storage, a bathroom and an additional living space, all with north facing glass a 6-star energy rating.
The new space now meant visitors could stay in the home and spend more time with the family rather than driving to and from separate accommodation.
Canberra Granny Flat Builders detailed project proposal and fixed price agreement allowed Nathan and Katie to be confident in the overall budget, which was followed exactly as promised.
The building work was quickly managed to have very little impact on the day-to-day life inside the home and was completed onsite within nine weeks.
